2022 Eco-Justice Gathering: Fostering Resilient

Hearts & Communities

June 27-July 1, 2022

This intergenerational (youth in grades 7-12 and adults) gathering in the Blue Ridge Mountains will be rooted in rhythms of rest, expansive cooperation, and beholding each other in the midst of daily awakening to climate change.

Equal parts resting with God and visioning for community resilience, we are taking a year to step in, breathe, and acknowledge the profound emotional, physical, and psychological effects of the ongoing climate crisis. Many of us are burned out, and heartbroken.

How do we move forward, together, celebrating what our faith communities and networks have accomplished, while also knowing we need imagination and energy for all that there still is to do?

Why Resiliency?

We believe the health of our minds, hearts, and bodies are inextricably linked to the health of our planet. As we daily read the constant news of wildfires, drought, species extinction, catastrophic water events, ecosystem collapse, biodiversity loss, and injustice of all kinds, we are affected.

The intersectionality of these issues with Covid-19 and systemic racism is something known and voiced by BIPOC communities for a long, long time. As a predominantly white host organization, we acknowledge the complexity and know that many will feel understandably sensitive to burnout, and wary of yet another climate action event. This is why we feel so strongly that we must build in rest to foster resiliency. Please reach out to us if you'd like to discuss further. We desire your input into this curation and planning.
