Young Adult Retreat

Sympathy for the Devil

Keynote Speaker, Amanda Billy

October 19 - 21, 2018

The Christmount Young Adult Retreat will be held October 19 - 21, 2018, for young adults over 22 years of age. This year, the event is open to single or married young adults, but housing for married couples is not available for you to be together. This is a great weekend in the western NC mountains, and there is plenty of time for both program activities and leisure as well.

Theme: Sympathy for the Devil

In this era of Twitter feuds, team rivalries, and political enmity, it’s easier than ever to judge people who disagree with us. Righteous anger can feel great in the moment, but Jesus commanded us to love, and, for better or worse, that still applies to people we may not like.

Some of the hard questions we're going to explore: How can we learn to love even our most terrible neighbors, and what does that look like? In a world as polarized as the one we live in now, how do we find and share the love of God? How do we develop sympathy for the Devil?

Can we? Should we?

Keynote Speaker

Amanda Billy is happy to call herself a long-time friend of Christmount. She came to the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) as a bitter, angry teenager and eventually realized -- partly because of her experiences as a youth group chaperone at Christmount -- that she had found a spiritual home.

Amanda lives in Florida with her two dogs and her housemates/parents. She does web strategy for a university, and, in her spare time, nerds out over pop culture, religion, genealogy, and politics.
