This is a special camp for high-functioning adults with special needs (sometimes referred to as cognitively challenged), 18 and over. It is a week of fun, fellowship, recreation, crafts, singing, swimming, hiking, and worship. Campers will live in cabins with at least one counselor for every four campers. The staff are a caring group who will supervise the campers at all times and work with them personally to insure that each person has a great time at camp.

Camp begins at 1:30 Monday afternoon (eat lunch before arrival)
Camp ends at 9:30 Friday morning.

Each camp has a limit for how many campers we can take. Campers are taken on a first-come, first served basis, based on when the application is in our hands.
Camp Sunshine #1: limited to 30 campers
Camp Sunshine #2: limited to 40 campers

The camp is designed to be a vacation for the campers rather than an educational event, so the activities will be recreational and fun. There is no attempt made to have the campers conform to a particular religious view, although the camp will have worship and prayer times. Medication is kept by the staff and given as prescribed. Medication records are kept by staff trained by a nurse.

Partial scholarships are available and must be arranged in advance of camp. A scholarship is built into the low camp price already, but smaller scholarships can be given.

Who comes to camp?
Campers 18 or older before camp begins who are able to take care of basic personal hygiene, like going to the restroom, showering, and dressing. All campers must be approved by Rev. Jamie Brame, Church Relations Director. Special needs are to be discussed with the Directors before the camper arrives at camp. Because the camp is not run by professional caregivers, it is important that we follow these guidelines when accepting campers.

Safety
Safety is an issue for all Christmount camps, but most especially when special needs are involved. Campers are supervised 24 hours a day with no more than a three to four campers to 1 camp staff ratio ( we use the four-to-one ratio with especially high-functioning campers).

Medications: please read this as it is new information  in 2012!!
Medicine is received from the campers at registration when arriving at camp. Medicine is locked up and only two staff will have access to the meds. Records must be kept. All medicine must arrive in the prescription bottle. We will also be making a photo of each camper to make sure we match names and faces.  Meds are distributed at prescribed times. Applications, like eye drops or special ointments, are also applied as required. We will use photo id for the meds to make sure we have the camper and the medications matched. Photos will be taken as campers arrive. The photos will only be used for medication purposes and will be returned to the camper at the end of the week.

Activities
Singing, dancing, movies, swimming, short hikes, devotional times, worship, bonfires, crafts, games, softball, volleyball, puzzles, talent show, and other activities. This camp is very active. Campers must be able to walk!
