If all this is confusing, please read below to understand more about the differences between "Christmount" camps and camps
sponsored by other groups.
Camps at Christmount fall into four types:
1. Camps that Christmount sponsors, plans, and staffs
(listed on left of chart above under "Christmount-sponsored Camps":
-
Work Camps
-
Mountain Camps
-
Middle School Girls Camp
-
Camp Lakey Gap
-
Camp Sunshine
Contact Christmount for information about these
camps.
2. Camps sponsored by the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in North
Carolina or other groups related to the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ):
-
CYF Conference
-
3rd, 4th, and 5th Grade Camp
-
6th and 7th Grade Camp
-
Camp Agape
-
Created to Be Me Camp ("eighters camp")
-
SERF Youth Leadership Event
Christmount does not plan these camps, and you cannot register through
Christmount for them. We will tell you all we know about them
or put you in touch
with the leaders for these camps.
3. Camps sponsored by other groups, both Disciples and other church
traditions. You must register through the leadership of those organizations
rather than through Christmount.
4. Work Camp Alternative for CYF groups:
Each year, Christmount sponsors Camp Sunshine for mentally and
developmentally challenged adults. Camp Sunshine is for high-functioning folks. All campers must be able to take care of their personal hygiene: dressing, showering, going to the restroom. There are
rare situations where sponsors would be in "uncomfortable" situations.
Because of growing popularity of this camp, we need counselors!
In order to maintain a camper to counselor ration of 3:1 or 4:1,
Christmount is looking for volunteers and youth groups who want to branch out into a more difficult work situation. It is fun, it is personally rewarding, but it is still hard work.
Youth groups help Christmount's 6 Summer Camp Staff with the supervision of campers during the day and possibly sleeping in cabins at night.
There are at most 5 campers to a cabin. Cabins are a duplex, so
there is a connecting hallway between two cabins. An experienced
camp staff or counselor (one who has worked the camp before and
knows what to do in most emergencies) is in each duplex.
Begins: Sunday afternoon with orientation and training before camp
begins on Monday.
Camp Sunshine #1
